Theresa Nguyen Garza, D.O.

Dr. Theresa Garza is a native Texan born and raised in Abilene.  She attended Wylie schools in Abilene but subsequently entered the Texas Academy of Mathematics in Science (TAMS) in Denton, where she received her high school diploma and was on the Dean’s List.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin with honors. She then attended medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth.

She completed her family medicine residency at Methodist Hospitals of Dallas in 2004, joined an existing family practice group, and helped open two more family medicine clinics in the Dallas area. Dr. Garza has served as medical director for a gastric band company, in which she managed patients pre- and post-operatively including the development of aftercare programs. She has been in private practice seeing patients for weight management for approximately 9 years.

She has appeared numerous times on Good Morning Texas to discuss obesity and gastric banding. For over 17 years, she has been working with bariatric patients with the education and treatment of obesity as well as the related co-morbid conditions.

Dr. Garza is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and board-certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Obesity Medicine Association (previously the American Society of Bariatric Physicians), Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society, Obesity Action Coalition, and American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. She is also an affiliate physician member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Garza’s other medical interests include wellness and anti-aging.

Kristin Cove received her bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and master’s of science in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center and has extensive experience in multiple facets of healthcare. She has worked in Alaska, where she enjoyed extreme temperature activities, and at Children’s Hospital in Colorado, where she was an avid skier. Besides her expertise in weight management, she maintains her involvement in primary care and preventative health services as a provider for WhiteGlove Health.

Kristin is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association.  She has been a patient and kind provider at Weight Management Medical Associates for five years. Kristin’s interests include interior design, exercise, and fanatical Red Raiders activities.  

Katherine “Katie” Collier, FNP-C

Katie is a native Texan and grew up locally in Carrollton. She received her bachelor’s of science in nursing at the University of Texas at Austin. She then moved back to Dallas to work in pediatric cardiology and intensive care for almost 10 years. She decided to pursue her master’s degree and received her master’s of science in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington where she received a 4.0 GPA.  She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. As an advanced practice provider, she has extensive experience in both pediatric and adult cardiology at Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Katie is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association. With her dedication to delivering quality medical care, she has been an asset to our practice with her high energy and interpersonal skills. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband and three daughters, and listening to live music. Her medical interests include cardiology, preventative health, obesity medicine, hormone therapy, and wellness.

Melissa Lopez Pham, FNP-C

Melissa is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and her clinical nursing background includes oncology, surgery, home health, and family practice. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and completed her Masters Degree in Nursing at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. Melissa works in collaboration with Dr. Garza and recognizes the uniqueness of all people to provide individualized care in weight management. Her other areas of interest include health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness.

Melissa is originally from deep South Texas and after living in San Antonio and Houston, she is calling North Texas her home. She enjoys many outdoor activities with her husband, 2 kids and 1 dog. Melissa also loves spin classes, a good book, loud concerts, and friendly competitions of table tennis.

Lisa is our esteemed and extremely patient practice manager and certified billing specialist. She has extensive experience in healthcare and brings her warm, endearing personality. She herself has lost over 150 pounds using the laparoscopic adjustable band (Lap-Band) as a tool and has also kept off the weight for several years.

Lisa enjoys spending time with her kids and having a good laugh while telling jokes.  She is also a confectionary-aficionado when it comes to baking and enjoys creating savory desserts and decorating delicious cakes! In her pastime she enjoys a good game of billiards with friends.  Her benevolent smile and laugh will lighten up your day as you come into our office.

Michael Nguyen

Michael is our astute account manager and patient care coordinator. He utilizes his business experience to strategically improve practice flow and business processes. He has worked in healthcare for over six years and enjoys helping patients with his friendly personality. He has lost over 60 pounds with healthy eating and lifestyle modifications and shares his personal experiences to inspire patients through their weight loss journey.

While at Baylor, he was part of the Baylor University Golden Wave Band. He is a graduate of the University of North Texas with a degree in finance.

He enjoys music and dance in his pastime. He has been playing guitar for over ten years and leads worship playing at several church mission trips and retreats. He also has been part of an acoustic, religious and heavy metal band playing at several shows in Waco. Michael has also been a member of two different hip-hop crews and showcased in competitions in Austin and Waco. He unceasingly helps all members of our practice and is our go-to technology wizard.

Luci is our lead Medical Assistant. She is a spontaneous and dynamic member of our staff who brings the liveliness to our days. Besides helping patients feel welcome and encouraging patients to be healthier, she is passionate about quality medical care and has well-rounded training and experience in various other healthcare experiences.

She enjoys exercising and dancing to keep her motivation sparked. She is not shy of casually baking magnificent desserts, while still maintaining her active lifestyle. Aside from her outgoing personality, she has a passion for collecting shoes of all styles and is able to spot unique designs miles away! She loves meeting new individuals every day and will make their day bright.

Alysha “Lysh” Ford, CMA

Lysh is our Medical Assistant. She has been an enthusiastic team member at our practice for three years. She is a wonderful asset to the team and brings a positive warmth and calmness to our office. Lysh has lost over 120 pounds with healthier choices and behavior modification and uses her personal experience to motivate and educate patients.

She is the epitome of being able to lose weight by eating smaller portions of normal (healthy) foods, maintaining weight loss by continually reading labels and incorporating exercise (particularly CrossFit), sharing what foods/products she feels are useful, and trying new things. She has found our B12/lipotropic shots extremely useful in enhancing her weight and fat loss.

Lysh has amazing creativity and artistic style resulting in incredible (and winning) office decorations for Halloween and holidays each year. Her interests include many outdoor activities such as hiking/camping, travel, cooking, crossfit, tattoos, and spending time with family.

LaTasha “Tasha” Hale, BS

Tasha has been our friendly front office specialist for four years. After double-majoring in Chemistry and Spanish from Xavier University Magna Cum Laude, she will now be pursuing the path as a Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.

Tasha has that vibrant personality that brings our office staff together. Besides being an intellectually gifted math geek, she is a fashionista and foodie! She enjoys hanging out with her friends, trying any & all foods, reading, traveling, and playing basketball.

Karinna Gallegos, MA

Medical Assistant Karinna kindly greets patients in the front and works with patients directly in the back. Growing up in a large family, her desire to take care of others led her to work in healthcare. She completed her medical assistant training years ago and has worked at various facilities. She developed a respect and love for working with overweight and obese clients at another facility, and is an exceptional addition to our practice.

She enjoys hanging out with family and friends and is open to any educational experience or spontaneous adventure.
