We are currently not accepting new patients for the online weight loss program until further notice.
Virtual Weight Loss Program Using Weekly Injections
We have launched our new telemedicine/telehealth (virtual) program using the newest-FDA approved weight loss medication (Wegovy/semaglutide) or Mounjaro/tirzepatide. Semaglutide (as Wegovy) was approved June 4, 2021 for weight loss and long term weight management. Semaglutide (as Ozempic) has been approved December 2017 for diabetes. All doses of Wegovy are anticipated back in stock end of December 2022. Mounjaro (tirazepatide) was approved in May 2022 for diabetes and is on the fast track to get FDA-approval for weight loss in 2023.
Here are the injection options (patients choose one):
- Wegovy
- Ozempic
- Compounded semaglutide with or without B12
- Mounjaro
- Compounded tirzepatide with B12
This category of medication work on metabolic hormones in the stomach. Because GLP-1 medications normalize insulin levels and stabilize blood sugars, patients are able to eat regular healthy food including small amounts of complex carbs and lose weight. No strict dieting or eliminating any food groups. The injections reduce appetite/cravings, increase satiety/fullness, and allow our bodies to respond better to our weight loss efforts. They stimulate weight loss (without being a stimulant). They help our bodies process and metabolize food better.
These are available by prescription only and one tool of a physician-supervised weight management program that includes diet, exercise, and behavior modification.
Dr. Garza is board-certified in Obesity Medicine and Family Medicine. She has struggled with her weight for 27 years. While being an advocate and expert for existing prescription weight loss medications, she most recently has lost over 40 lbs with compounded semaglutide and an additional 25 lbs with Mounjaro.
Our new online program does not accept insurance. Please contact us at drtgarza@weightmanagemedical.com for more information about our virtual program using weekly injectables. FAQs
Do you accept insurance?
Our virtual program for weekly semaglutide/Wegovy/Ozempic or tirzepatide/Mounjaro injections consists of all telehealth (no in person visits) for anyone in the U.S. Our virtual program does not accept insurance. We have found that many health insurances do not cover weight management services. If you are interested in trying to use your health insurance, you have to be seen in our Plano office. If you want to be seen in Plano, email: vee@weightmanagemedical.com for insurance inquiries.
Do you do prior authorizations?
We perform prior authorizations for Wegovy. We perform prior authorizations for Ozempic and Mounjaro if you have lab documented type 2 diabetes (HbA1C > 6.5). The compounded injections are out of pocket costs that insurance does not cover, therefore prior authorizations are not needed.
What medications are prescribed through this virtual program? Patient choose one medication but can easily be switched at any time per patient request.

What is a GLP-1?
Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists are a unique class of drugs with indications to treat both diabetes and obesity. GLP-1 agonists are synthetic (man-made) hormones that resemble and act like GLP-1 which is one of the gut hormones involved in controlling the blood sugar. They work in the following ways:
- They belong to a class of drugs called “incretin mimetics” because these drugs mimic the effects of incretins.
- Incretins are hormones that are produced and released into the blood by the intestine in response fo food.
- GLP-1 is an incretin, one of the gut hormones, involved in controlling blood sugar, mainly acting on the insulin that the body produces after meals.
- GLP-1 is responsible for various functions such as:
- Stimulation of insulin from the pancreas in response to food
- Slowing down the absorption of glucose from the gut
- Reduces gastric emptying
- Inhibits the action of glucagon, a hormone that increase glucose production by the liver
- Reduces appetite and promotes satiety or stomach fullness.
All GLP-1s are clinically-tested, stimulant-free, and non-habit forming. GLP-1s address the underlying biology that is most important for weight loss, and help lower your set point, or the weight your body fights to stay at. GLP-1s are powerful, naturally-occurring hormones made by your gut that send signals to your brain to decrease your appetite, improve your metabolic system, and regulate your digestion so you can feel full longer and maximize nutrient absorption.
What else do you offer?

What about diet?
We support lower carb, high protein, moderate fat eating behaviors for weight management and sustainability. We suggest using a RD/dietician, online meal planning program (such as Noom), or commercial weight loss program if you are not familiar with healthy eating.
What about exercise?
We want you to attempt to be active for overall general health. However, you are not required to exercise for this category of weight loss medication to be effective.
Do you order or require labs?
For our GLP-1 only program, we do not require labs. However, we support your PCP recommendations for lab testing.
Do you require an EKG?
GLP-1 medication is not a simulant medication. An EKG is not required.
