How Are We Different
We have launched our new telemedicine/telehealth (virtual) program using the newest-FDA approved weight loss medication (semaglutide) or Mounjaro. Semaglutide (as Wegovy) was approved June 4, 2021 for weight loss and long term weight management. As of August 17, 2022, there continues to be a national shortage of Wegovy and Ozempic. Ozempic is injectable semaglutide that was approved in 2017 for diabetes. Mounjaro (tirazepatide) was approved in May 2022 for diabetes and is in clinical studies to get approval for weight loss and long term weight management.
As an alternative to Wegovy/Ozempic, we prescribe compounded semaglutide or Mounjaro (tirzepatide). These are available by prescription only and one tool of a physician-supervised weight management program that includes diet, exercise, and behavior modification.
Dr. Garza has struggled with her weight for 25 years. While being an advocate and expert for existing prescription weight loss medications, she most recently she has lost over 40 lbs with compounded semaglutide.
Our new online program does not accept insurance. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about our telemedicine program using weekly injectables. If you are interested in seeing Dr. Garza or Melissa Pham, FNP-C in our Plano office for comprehensive weight loss options, please contact us at (972) 303-8955.
How It Works
If you are interested in our Wegovy/semaglutide or Mounjaro weight management program, fill out this short questionnaire (below) so we can determine if you are a candidate for this category of medication. We see patients from all over the U.S.
You will then receive notification from the doctor whether you are a candidate. If you are a candidate, Weight Management Medical Associates will send you an invoice for $195. Am I Eligible?
Fill out the 6 question questionnaire to determine eligibility to use a GLP-1.
Do you accept insurance?
Our virtual program for weekly Mounjaro or Wegovy injections consists of all telehealth (no in person visits) for anyone in the U.S. Our virtual program does not accept insurance. We have found that many health insurances (including BCBS) do not cover weight management services. If you are interested in trying to use your health insurance, you have to be seen in our Plano office. If you want to be seen in Plano, email: firstname.lastname@example.org for insurance inquiries.
Do you do prior authorizations?
No, we do not do prior authorizations for Wegovy, Ozempic, or Mounjaro through our online only program.
What medications are prescribed through this virtual program?
There is a national shortage of Wegovy and Ozempic. At this time, we are not able to start patients on branded Wegovy or Ozempic. We will continue higher dose Wegovy or Ozempic depending on pharmacy availability. We will not perform prior authorizations through our online program.
We prescribe Mounjaro or compounded semaglutide as alternatives to Wegovy/Ozempic.
What is a GLP-1?
All GLP-1s are clinically-tested, stimulant-free, and non-habit forming. GLP-1s address the underlying biology that is most important for weight loss, and help lower your set point, or the weight your body fights to stay at. GLP-1s are powerful, naturally-occurring hormones made by your gut that send signals to your brain to decrease your appetite, improve your metabolic system, and regulate your digestion so you can feel full longer and maximize nutrient absorption.
What else do you offer?
For comprehensive medical weight loss options other than GLP-1 medications only, go to weightmanagemedical.com
What about diet?
We support lower carb, high protein, moderate fat eating behaviors for weight management and sustainability. You are welcome to follow any diet you would like as the GLP-1 would complement healthier choices in general. Some of our patients choose to follow Paleo, Mediterranean, modified-Keto, intermittent fasting, WW, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem. We are not dieticians or nutritionists and do not individualize meal plans. We suggest using a RD/dietician, online meal planning program (such as Noom), or commercial weight loss program.
What about exercise?
We want you to attempt to be active for overall general health. However, you are not required to exercise for this category of weight loss medication to be effective.
Do you order or require labs?
For our GLP-1 only program, we do not require labs. However, we support your PCP recommendations for lab testing.
Do you require an EKG?
GLP-1 medication is not a simulant medication. An EKG is not required.
Do you accept returns or refunds?
In the event you feel we have made an error, please contact our team at: email@example.com. Due to the nature of our service we are unable to offer physical returns of products for re-use or re-sale, please dispose of unwanted or expired medications at your local pharmacy.
