Am I Eligible for Medical Weight Loss Treatment?
Our virtual weight management program is available for adults 18 years of age or older who are interested in medical weight loss support, including GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide when clinically appropriate.
Eligibility is reviewed individually. Dr. Garza reviews each patient’s intake form, including their health history, prior weight loss efforts, current medications, and overall treatment goals, to determine whether the program is an appropriate and safe fit. Below are the FDA-approved treatment guidelines commonly used to determine medical eligibility for weight loss medications.

You May Be a Good Candidate If:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- Your BMI is 30 or higher
- Your BMI is 27 or higher and you have at least one weight-related health condition, such as:
- High blood pressure
- Type 2 diabetes
- Sleep apnea
- High cholesterol or other lipid disorders
- You have tried lifestyle changes such as nutrition, exercise, or other weight loss efforts but need additional medical support
- You are looking for a long-term, medically guided approach to weight management
Who May Not Qualify?
GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide may not be appropriate for patients with certain medical conditions or risk factors.
You may not qualify, or you may need additional medical clearance, if you have any of the following:
- Type 1 diabetes
- Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma
- History of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2, also called MEN 2
- Severe gastrointestinal disorders, such as gastroparesis
- History of chronic or recurring pancreatitis
- Current pregnancy
- Currently breastfeeding
- Known diagnosis of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, severe non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy, macular edema, or diabetic macular edema, unless risks and benefits have been reviewed with your healthcare provider

Submitting an intake form does not guarantee that medication will be prescribed. The decision to start treatment is made after reviewing your medical history, current health status, and whether this program is a safe and appropriate fit for you.
