Compounded GLP-1 Medications

Some patients may be prescribed compounded medication when clinically appropriate. Compounded medications do not have the same manufacturer websites, savings cards, or FDA approved Medication Guides as brand-name medications.

Important reminders:
Medication instructions may vary by pharmacy, concentration, and vial. Always follow the dosing instructions provided by our office and the pharmacy. Do not compare “units” between different pharmacies or different vial strengths. Contact our office before changing your dose or restarting after a medication gap. Keep your medication baggie/box because it contains your RX number and refill information.

Medication Safety & Instructions
Before using any GLP-1 medication, review the instructions provided with your prescription. Manufacturer pages often include step-by-step videos, Medication Guides, safety information, storage instructions, and missed-dose guidance.

Helpful safety reminders:

Do not use two GLP-1 medications together unless specifically instructed by your clinician. Do not change your dose without contacting our office.
Do not take extra medication to “make up” for a missed dose.
Contact our office if you have persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, dehydration, symptoms of gallbladder disease, allergic reaction symptoms, or any side effect that feels concerning.
If you are unsure whether to take your next dose, pause and ask us first.

Nutrition & Lifestyle Support

GLP-1 medications work best when paired with consistent nutrition habits, hydration, movement, and strength training. You do not need a perfect diet — just a realistic plan you can repeat.
General goals:
Prioritize protein at meals.
Drink fluids consistently throughout the day.
Include fiber as tolerated.
Eat slowly and stop when comfortably full.
Limit greasy, heavy, or very large meals if they worsen nausea or reflux.
Include resistance training to help preserve muscle during weight loss.

Sharps Disposal

Used pens, needles, and syringes should be placed in an appropriate sharps container. Do not place loose needles directly in household trash or recycling.

Refills & Ongoing Care

Refills are not automatic. Please request refills before you run out of medication so there is enough time for review, pharmacy processing, payment, and shipping if applicable.

To continue ongoing care through our virtual program:
Maintain an active monthly membership after the first 3 months of treatment. Submit your Quarterly Progress Report every 3 months.

Contact the pharmacy directly if you have refills remaining on your current prescription. Contact our office if you need a new dose, a dose adjustment, a medication change, or a new prescription.

A Final Note

GLP-1 treatment is not one-size-fits-all. The best option depends on your medical history, goals, side effects, insurance coverage, medication availability, and cost preferences. Our goal is to help you navigate these choices safely, thoughtfully, and with a treatment plan that feels realistic and sustainable for you.
